Which is better for teeth alignment: Invisalign or metal braces?

It's difficult to say as both of the techniques have their pros and cons.

Invisalign-

Pros-

Invisible- If you are looking for an option that is esthetically pleasing, then invisalign is the best option for you.

Removable- Invisalign trays are removable. You can remove them on your on if ever needed or you wish to.

No dietary restrictions- You can eat anything you wish to even if that's sticky or something else. There won't be wires and brackets to complicate that.

No pain and discomfort- There won't be any wire continuously poking or any ulcer caused by continuous irritation.

Easy to clean- Cleaning is less time and effort consuming.

Cons-

Expensive- It's highly expensive so not everyone can afford it.

Removable- It also comes under cons, as there are higher chances of getting it misplaced because of removability. You need to pay extra if you lost any tray and again that's very expensive.

Not suitable for every case- There are few severe cases where Invisalign can't be used to treat malocclusion. They are incapable of treating every case.

Metal braces-

Pros-

Suitable for every case- This is the old and rough and tough kind of technique. It can be used to treat most critical cases of malocclusion.

Fixed- This is a fixed appliance. So they are no chances of getting misplaced and extra charges.

Less expensive- Metalliy braces are the cheapest option to treat malocclusion.

Cons-

Esthetically unpleasant- Metallic braces are clearly visible and affect esthetics of a patient.

Pain and discomfort- They are painful up to some extent. And patient might feel discomfort because of wires and ulcers.

Dietary restrictions- You can't eat everything. You need to avoid hard and sticky food.

Difficult to maintain hygiene- cleaning metal braces is more time consuming than Invisalign.

Now choose the best option based on your personal requirement.

Does it hurt to have braces put on? What are some tips for adjusting to new braces?

Many orthodontic patients wonder if it hurts to have braces put on, and this is a valid concern! There are definitely some tips I can share that will help with the adjustment to new braces.

First of all, it does NOT hurt to put braces on.

The adjustment to braces might be uncomfortable in the beginning and your teeth will get sore a couple days after.

It will be a bit difficult to eat because of the discomfort so stick with very soft food the first couple weeks .

To keep up with your nutrition, I suggest drinking protein shakes, soups and fresh juices.

It will be difficult to keep your braces clean with just brushing alone, so we recommend using WaterPik in the evening to get food debris out.

Have patience! The treatment will be over soon and you will have straight teeth and a beautiful smile!! :)
